INJURIES
SHIN
SPLINTS (male, aged
21 - 2 treatments)
R was a keen athlete, but he had suffered from shin
splints for twelve years, usually triggered by road
running. Physiotherapy had proved painful and given no
relief. Within a few days of the first Bowen treatment
he was almost completely pain free and after two
sessions he had no recurrence of the problem for over a
year.
TWISTED
ANKLE (Football-playing
male, aged 26 - 2 treatments)
A sprained ankle in a football game put N off the field.
He received immediate Bowen treatment on the pitch side
and within minutes was back on the pitch. A few days
afterwards he went running but was uncomfortable, so he
received a second Bowen treatment later that week.
Following this he was able to return to play football at
the weekend.
SHINSPLINTS
& PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT (male
aged 26 2 treatments + 'top ups')
Triathlete M was delighted with the results of the two
Bowen treatments he received for his painful shin
splints. He decided to continue to have treatments on a
regular basis because, he said: "I am now
performing better than I have ever done before. In the
past, I always managed to do very well in the training
but on the big day I never seemed to be able to match my
training performance. However, I am now actually
achieving far higher placing in the over all order than
I have ever done." He puts this sustained
improvement down to The Bowen Technique and continues to
come for regular treatments because he believes that not
only is it a performance enhancer but that it is also a
preventative to injury.
CARTILAGE/LIGAMENT
DAMAGE (male,
aged 23 - 4 treatments)
A cricketer and rugby player, H's left leg was in a
brace following cartilage removal and damage to the AC
ligament. His right leg was in plaster nearly to the
knee due to further ligament problems and he was on
anti-inflammatory tablets. Some severe pain followed the
first Bowen treatment and the left knee became
temporarily more swollen. However, after four treatments
the hospital verdict was that the knees were now very
stable and that a further anticipated operation would no
longer be necessary.
HAMSTRING
STRAINS (male
footballer, 25, 2 treatments + ongoing top-ups). P
often missed matches because of persistent hamstring
strains, and was prone to cramping when he did play - he
had been unable to play a full 90 minutes for several
seasons. After two Bowen sessions he was able to play a
full match with no cramping or hamstring strain. P
continues to receive Bowen on a weekly basis during the
football season, for injury prevention and general
conditioning and did not miss a game through injury last
season.
DISLOCATED
SHOULDER (male
footballer, 25 – 2 treatments). T dislocated his left
shoulder towards the end of a football match. Bowen
procedures were administered on the side of the pitch,
and the arm eased itself back into the shoulder socket
without any physical manipulation or pain. Although a
hospital check-up suggested there was no damage to the
shoulder, T felt some continued discomfort and had one
follow-up Bowen session two weeks later. He has not
needed another since then.
TENNIS
ELBOW (girl, aged 13
- 3 treatments)
M had a diagnosed case of tenosynovitis of the lower
arm. A very talented tennis player, she had been unable
to write, use a knife or grip a tennis racquet for some
months. After three treatments she had returned to her
normal standard of competitive tennis and she had no
return of pain.
